What a great January it has been on the Kenn for those lucky enough to locate the fish. Today Thursday 20th January in the very cold and bright conditions Life Member Kev Perry fished peg 35 for 5 perch over 2lb the best just short of 3lb. Winter on the Kenn always throws up a few surprises.

Chris Ford had a cracking brace of Roach above Strode Rd on the maggot feeder, 14th January. They went 3lb and 2lb exactly. Plenty of roach showing throughout the river at the moment.

Lure and dead bait anglers (no freshwater dead baits permitted) are having some success on the Kenn at the moment catching pike. They must be hungry as anglers fishing worm and maggot are also having a few.

Please be advised the River Kenn will be closed for our Christmas Match this Sunday 19th December from Kenn Rd to the Outfall.

There will be an Extraordinary AGM on Thursday 27th January 2022.

The role of a Trustee is a highly responsible position, please see the role description below.

The role of a Clevedon and District Angling Club Trustee is:

• To ensure that Clevedon and District Freshwater Angling Club complies at all times with its   governing documents.

• To set and maintain vision and values.

• To safeguard the good name and values of Clevedon and District Freshwater Angling club.

• To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Club including funding, insurance and assets.

• To act in the best interests of the Club, never in the interests of yourself or another organisation.

In addition to the above each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience s/he has to help the Committee reach sound decisions. These may involve scrutinising committee/working group plans, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and other issues in which the trustee has special expertise. A trustee is required to act reasonably and prudently in all matters relating to the Club and must always bear the      interests of Clevedon and District Freshwater Angling club in mind.

Main tasks involved in being a Trustee are:

• to attend Committee meetings.

• to attend Clevedon and District Freshwater Angling Club AGM and any Extraordinary meetings;

• to prepare appropriately in advance of meetings;

• to participate actively and constructively in Committee meeting discussions and decision    making.
• to foster a positive working relationship with other Trustees and Club Committee members.
• to develop and maintain up-to-date awareness of Clevedon Freshwater Angling Club and its activities;
• to participate as necessary in any sub committees or working parties the Committee may arrange.

ON LINE SALES

Our on line sales had to be suspended earlier in the year due to some technical difficulties but I am please to say that the facility to purchase permits on line is back up and running, The help provided by Scott Smallwood and his son Lewis is very much appreciated.

POLLUTION

We had a report of diesel coming out of a culvert upstream of Strode Rd in the vicinity of peg 37. Thanks to the quick action of Chris Burden who reported the incident the Environment Agency and Wessex Water were able to respond quickly. There is no evidence of fish loss or any other environmental impact. Should you see anything of concern entering any waterway please phone the Environment Agency on 0800 807060, this number is on the back of your rod licence.

OUT – FALL GATE MAINTENANCE

We have been advised by the Environment Agency that maintenance work starting in Mid November to Mid April is to be carried out on and around the area surrounding the Out -Fall gates. An area will be fenced off during the period of works as outlined in the photo below. We have asked a number of questions surrounding the protection of fish stocks during this period and have been reassured with the response but we will monitor very carefully.

Well after months of clearing the River Kenn of weed for the Charity and Memorial Matches it did not take long for it to return due to the weather. Most of the surface weed however is stuff that is coming off the bottom so with rain forecast and a few high tides it should disappear quite quickly.

There have been a few anglers putting in some time on the river lately though despite the weed.

Ben Hodder is having some good results lately on basic waggler and maggot tactics mainly around peg 22.

Over the weekend of 25th and 26th September he had these beauties.

A quality bag of perch followed by what I believe is a rudd / bream hybrid but there are different opinions concerning what this fish is!

Clevedon and District Freshwater Angling Club were pleased to host the Lance Tucker Memorial Match on the River Kenn from the Outfall to Kenn Road. Lance was a well known and popular angling character across the West Country who tragically passed away at work just before last Christmas.

55 anglers who knew Lance took part in the competition, some had not fished for a few years but dusted off their fishing tackle in order to support the event.The river and banks were in great condition following a couple of months of weed raking, tree pruning and mowing.

With so many anglers on the bank it was always going to be a difficult and the bright sunny conditions would also affect the fishing. Clevedon Club Chairman Steve Bonwick drew peg 1 nearest the Outfall which was a fancied area, he also had the added pressure of England International Des Shipp fishing next to him on peg 2. Steve was soon into quality bream averaging 6 lb and raced ahead with confidence netting 11 of them for 66 lbs and a match win. Second place went to Dominic Sullivan on peg 3 with 43lb with Des weighing 42lb for 3rd.Fishing Tackle shops across the West provided prizes and Companies which Lance and his family had a link to donated quality gifts for the on line raffle.In total over £3000 was raised which will be donated to a heart charity.

The Tucker family, friends and Clevedon Freshwater Angling Club would like to thank the Bridge Inn at Yatton, the Blue Flame Public House and all those who made the event a huge success.

Dave Fowler was a founder member of the Clevedon & District Freshwater Angling Club and sadly passed away a few years ago. Every year and in his memory a competition is held to raise money for Charities. This year two Charities were supported, Friends of Clevedon Hospital and The Orchard Trust. 

The match was held on the River Kenn in Clevedon and there was a good turnout of 31 anglers. The forecast for the day was not good but thankfully the thunderstorms held off. With a mainly overcast sky it was predicted the fishing would be good but the fish had other idea’s.

Life member Andy Law only needed one big bream, a few perch and an eel to take the top spot on the day weighing 7 lbs 11 oz from peg 16. Mark Birdseye also had a big bream weighing 6 lb 5oz to take second place and Steve Warren was third with 4 lb 12oz. Fern Bonwick guessed the winning weight correctly.

Over £600 was raised for the Charities.

The Club would like to thank Cadbury Angling, Olivers Angling, Reel Fun and the Fishing Tackle Warehouse for donating prizes for the raffle and the Blue Flame Public House for their hospitality.

Please be informed all pegs will be used this Saturday 24th July above and below Strode Rd. for our annual charity match.

Pegs along this stretch have been raked and trimmed again.
