Charity Match

by Clevedon FWAC on

Dave Fowler Memorial (Charity Match) River Kenn, above and below Strode Rd Bridge Clevedon 22nd July 2023.

This is our annual Flagship Event in order to support local Charities. The nominated Charity this year was Weston Hospicecare.

This match must be the largest in Somerset and the Club start preparing many months in advance. The amount of time and effort invested in maintaining the banks and clearing weed is enormous.

42 Anglers were booked in for this match and the weather did not put people off. The draw was in Kenn Rd Car Park and Jenny, Andy and Grant Law did a great job cooking bacon and sausage rolls along with tea and coffee for a small fee which went towards the charity fund.

Rob Fogg our match secretary was well organised and the draw got underway without a hitch at 08:30 with fishing from 10:30 – 15:30. The rain and wind came in as forecast just before the match started, water conditions were very clear and most knew it would be a tough day. During the match no one walked the bank (they were all under the brolley) so it was hard to establish how the river was fishing. It did turn out a tough day but Simon Carvallo made the best of it from end peg 1 to catch a nice mixed bag of skimmers, roach and perch to weigh 6lbs 14oz and a match win. ,On end peg 45 upstream Mark Bartlett was second with 5lbs 3oz.Third place went to Kev Perry from peg 30 with 4lb 8oz.4th Mark Bromsgrove 3lb 14oz 5th Paul Faiers 3lb 10oz 6th Jeremey Salisbury 3lb 7oz

A section – Ivan Currie 1lb 8oz

B section – Jeff Surman 2lb 14oz

C section – Jeff Beasley 1lb 10oz

D section – Nigel Wyatt 2lb 6oz

The Guess the Winning Weight was won by Kev PerryThe results and BBQ were held after the match at the Blue Flame Pub along with the Raffle.

A total of £1000 was raised for Weston Hospicecare.
